The main objective of this report is to develop a set of policy guidelines that would improve the culture of enterprise in the UK and thus contribute towards making Britain the enterprise capital of the world.

This case study analyses OneCompare (www.onecompare.com), the first mobile phone comparison website in the United Kingdom. Set up in 2004, it enables mobile phone users to specify their needs and then select from the most appropriate options. With the highly complex UK mobile phone market OneCompare quickly became popular receiving 2 million visitors in 2006.

To investigate whether entrepreneurs always conduct their business affairs wholly by the rulebook, this paper evaluates if it is common for entrepreneurs to engage in off-the-books
transactions. Face-to-face interviews with 91 entrepreneurs in England, 331 in Ukraine and 81 in Russia reveal that the great majority conduct some or all of their transactions off-the-books.
In the early years of the new millennia Friends Reunited became a dramatic addition to the popular culture of the United Kingdom. Friends Reunited was launched with minimal funding from a back room in London in 2000 offering a website which put old friends back in touch with each other.

What Constitutes entrepreneurship and defines an entrepreneur? There are several different versions. The existing literature separates at least five categories of entrepreneuring. The approach adopted by Shane and Venkatraman is the starting point in this paper.
Despite excellent science and a demand for the products, the European biotechnology industry has had limited success, and in the UK has collapsed almost entirely. A major reason for this is the behaviour of the investors in the industry, from actions ranging from systematic under-investment through manipulation of business processes to inappropriate public flotation.

Women’s potential to lead a firm – whether one started by a family member or a new venture of their own – is still not often enough acknowledged. With family firms acknowledged as the seeding grounds for the next generation of entrepreneurs, and with increasing attention in research and public policy to women’s entrepreneurship, it is important to understand the factors in family firms which help and hinder their women members’ leadership and entrepreneurship potential.
Most extant research shows that female entrepreneurs are less likely to grow large firms and, in fact, don’t want to grow their firms as large as male entrepreneurs do. This study of 191 nascent entrepreneurs finds that neither men nor women entrepreneurs consider firm growth a top priority for their emerging firms.
